Decentralized electricity storage
at AB InBev
With the installation of battery storage solutions, the world's leading brewing company Anheuser-Busch InBev is taking an important step towards sustainability. In cooperation with EDF Renewables, battery storage systems will be installed at four locations in Germany. In 2023, the first battery storage system was put into operation at Beck's in Bremen. In addition, three more battery storage systems will be installed at Spaten-Löwenbräu in Munich, at Hasseröder in Wernigerode, and at Diebels in Issum.
Anheuser-Busch InBev has signed a ten-year contract with EDF Renewables Deutschland: EDF Renewables offers a full-service package from planning to installation and operation, and also covers the investment costs.
Beck's Bremen
In November 2023 the battery storage system in Bremen was commissioned. The battery is designed to supply the production plant with 1.6 MW for at last an hour.
- 1.6 MW power
- 1.9 MWh capacity
- 192 modules, 8 racks
- Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxydes (NMC)
- 20-foot container
- Connection to the medium-voltage grid
- Potential cost savings per year: 238,000 Euro
Hasseröder Wernigerode
In June 2024, the second battery storage system for AB InBev will be put into operation. Here, the battery can supply the brewery with at least 1.4 MW for one hour.
- 1.3 MW power
- 1.4 MWh capacity
- 144 modules, 6 racks
- Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxydes (NMC)
- 20-foot container

- Potential cost savings per year: 155,480 Euro
Löwenbräu-Spaten München
The third and largest battery storage system in Munich is currently under construction and is expected to be operational in the fall of 2024. This system will supply the company with at least 1.7 MW for one hour.
- 1.7 MW power
- 2 MWh capacity
- 192 modules, 8 racks
- Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxydes (NMC)
- 20-foot container
- Connection to the medium-voltage grid
